James E. Stowers

James E. Stowers, 93, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:58 A.M., Sunday, April 28, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
James was a retired carpenter and bricklayer. He was of the protestant faith. He was a 48 year member of the IOOF Hope Lodge 232 and a past noble grand. He was a member of the carpenters and bricklayers union.
James was born September 23, 1908 at Tamaroa, IL the son of James Elvis and Mary (Newbury) Stowers.
He married Opal E. Phillips on March 15, 1930 at Du Quoin, IL and she passed away October 25, 1988.
He is survived by three daughters- Roberta Bailey of Tamaroa, IL, Mary Ann Jordan of Kennewick, WA, Carol Robinson of Du Quoin, IL, son- John E. Stowers of Tamaroa, IL, sister- Betty Harsy of Du Quoin, IL, brother- Edward (Jiggs) Stowers of Dallas, TX, twelve grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four sisters, four brothers, one great grandson, one great granddaughter.
Funeral service were at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with his granddaughter Rev. Sheila Stowers officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery at Du Quoin.
